Isolation hasn't been popular since around 2014, when guys like Carmelo Anthony were still big time players, and was in it's prime in the early to mid 2000's with dudes like Allen Iverson and Kobe Bryant. That's because it doesn't produce spacing, the defense can just sit and watch you try to break them down.
Cutting to the perimeter can be an effective way to get open looks. However, it's never a first choice unless there's already a back screen waiting for you. Unless it's part of a play, you generally use perimeter cuts when a) the defense is collapsing on the ballhandler, b) your defender is in deny and you're stagnant otherwise or c) another player is coming in to take the space you're in, so you need to fill in.

I do not understand why 99% gamers on FIFA do not use lob passes? The pitch is the size of 4 or 5 full courts, so you have a high advantage for successful lob passes. 99% of passes in the NBA are not lob passes…that should say something.
Once again, great video! I know how to play football since forever, every rule and nuance, and maaan, FIFA surely has no resemblance to that whatsoever. I think one of the reasons I still struggle when I face strong opponents is not being able to change the mindset of trying to reproduce what would work in real life.

I was wondering why i suck at the game, so, i started recording my games and to my surprise, i found that my passes and gameplay resembles so much of real football, and looks elegant to watch. However, in all my games, eventually I loose the ball, and there are 3-4 ping pong passes from the opponent, and viola, a beautiful counterttacking near post of finasse goal. 🙂
You are spot on with the backwards logic bit. I model my game around the beautiful through pass but I noticed with the recent FIFA games (19 for me), anytime I see a teammate open, more than 90% of the time, the GK collects the ball. I just started playing a couple weeks ago when fifa was 10$ My best runs are almost never rewarded 😂 All makes sense now why sometimes we run into teams doing drag backs all game and having a break through to score eventually

Stallion wouldnt have known that FIFA21 is far worse for those points he pointed out in this game. iso play is much more abused in 21，directional nutmeg and shit like that. looks like FIFA22 will be even worse.
It's not even GOOD basketball, same as NBA game is not good basketball. Iso (isolation) does not play even that big a role in modern basketball. The NBA game is broken too in a rather similar way than FIFA is, the AI is shit in attack and cannot do anything without you and punishes good passing and reading of play. Yes, FIFA might be more similar to basketball, but modern basketball is not all iso too, even in NBA which historically has been more 1 on 1 as international basketball, three point shooters now are very important and it's important to dish out good passes to the outside for free 3 pointers, but NBA game punishes you when you try to pass and punishes making completely undefended 3s… it forces you to play 1 on 1 iso all the time
I remember the times when I expected every new football game to be better than the last one. Right now that's not the case at all. I don't buy new games because I know that they aren't better then the older ones. When I play football video game I play either PES 15 or PES 11.
The last football game I bought was PES 15 and it is a great game. I always liked PES way more than FIFA. FIFA was never realistic to me, it doesn't allow creative play, it doesn't let you score from crosses, it has way more stale gameplay than PES. And as far as I see from YouTuber who play online fifa, online fifa has scripting which turns a video game into a scripted movie. In PES 15, scripting is mostly good actually. If you have a nice attack which result in a corner kick, you are much more likely to score a goal than if you got a corner kick by some accidental bouncing of the ball. Same goes for crosses, you are much more likely to score a header if you passed a ball through and the player who crosses was wide open. PES 15 allows beautiful balls through. If youwl want you can press L2 and manually pass the ball wherever you want which allows for beautiful and creative long balls through.
